“ALL DONE DJ! ALL DO…

“ALL DONE DJ! ALL DONE DJ!!”

This morning, Jonah was playing with a car called “DJ” from the Cars movie.

He was initially as happy as could be.

Jonny asked me who “DJ” was and I started quoting from the movie…

“Hey Yo, DJ! We got ourselves a ‘nodder.’”

It was as if a switch instantly flipped in Jonah and he immediately threw his car and started started yelling “ALL DONE ‘DJ!’“ over and over again.

He also continued to throw the car.

It was very specific. He had plenty of objects readily available to “hurl” but he focused on this one toy and continued to throw it as if “DJ” had directly offended him.

It lasted a few minutes until I was able to redirect him.

I’ve seen this behavior in the past.

If Jonah is playing with “Bluey,” and I ask him about “Bluey,” he instantly throws the toy, yelling NO! ALL DONE!”

I will also get the same reaction from Jonah if I start singing (minus the throwing of toys). ESPECIALLY, if it’s a song he knows. He will yell “All Done SING!!”

I haven’t quite worked out the reasoning behind this.

My hunch is that he just wants “space” to play, but I could be singing in another room and he will yell at me “All Done SINGING!”

Is it the “interpersonal connection” he is protesting? The fact that there is a “shared commonality” with somebody else that he doesn’t like or didn’t initiate?

Sort of like some folks have an aversion to “eye contact?” (Incidentally, Jonah actually has never had a problem with eye contact).

I don’t actually know the reasoning here.

Thoughts?
