So today is Fathers Day.
I wrote this two years ago as I was laying on the floor of Jonah’s room, praying for him to fall asleep. Jonah was using me as a pillow and it was the wee hours of the morning.
No longer.
Now, Jonah does not need me to sit or lay down with him to fall asleep.
He is a “big boy” now.
As a matter of fact, he climbs into his bed, gets under the covers and lets me leave the room right then and there..
It took months if not years to get to this point.
So much hard work. So many meltdowns endured.
And now strangely… I find myself missing those nights.
Meltdowns and all.
Because it means Jojo is getting older.
Each day, a little bigger.
And one day, he won’t want to do this anymore.
One day, I will pick him up, put him down, and he will never lay on me again.
And I won’t even know it was the last time…
