On Jonah’s last day of preschool…

On Jonah’s last day of preschool I find myself reflecting on how far Jonah has come.

When we started the school year, he had no interest in playing with the other kids. He had no interest in doing what the class was doing and only wanted to play outside… (heck, That was half of MY school experience).

But today was his last day of preschool this year. (He is still 4 so we are doing another year of PK before moving on to Kindergarten).

He’s actually developed a few friends, and one in particular (also on the spectrum), who is attending a different school next year has become one of his best friends.

I made sure to get contact info so they can continue their friendship.

When we left today, (of course) there were no hugs given, not even to teachers who have been with him all year, some who most likely will not see him again.

It is not the routine.

Routines cannot be interrupted. Not even for “goodbyes.”

And they all ‘get that’ and understand so it was not a big deal.
But he gave them a wave as he was walking to the car.

And now… on to summer!
