Waiting for the “other shoe to drop”

I think there must be a high pollen count today… or dust or something.

This morning, Jonah slept in his own bed and woke up at about 7am which (yes… thank you… no. YOU are too kind. yes… no stop it. STOP IT!)…

Anyways, after he got up, he came into our bedroom and briefly snuggled with us before getting up and waking brother up by banging on his door… This can go either way, depending on which side of the bed Jonny wakes up on.

“GOOD MORNING JOJO-BEE!! IT’S BROTHER! HOW ARE YOU??”

Raucous laughter from both parties ensued.

Apparently, today Jonny woke up on the “good” side.

Jonah had laid down on the floor of the hallway, and Jonny was using him as a “pillow.” They were naturally doing word imitation and “intraverbals” (which is therapy-speak for ‘back and forth’ conversation), which is one of the HARDEST things to learn for those who are preverbal/nonverbal.

It is a mixture of pieces of therapy and scripted conversations Jonny has picked up from just being around us all the time.

It looked something like this.

Jonny: “Hi Jojo! How are you?”

Jojo (scripted):”I fine, tank you!”

Jonny: “Jojo-bee, are you hot?”

Jojo (scripted): “Are you warm?”

Jonny: “Are you cold?”

Both: “brrrrr!!”
laughter

Jonny: “Jojo, do you want more tickles?”

Jojo: “more tickles!?”
laughter

Jonny: “Da-da-da-da-da-da”
(Jojo joins): “Da-da-da-da-da!”
laughter

Jonah pretends to cough…
Jonny also pretends to cough…
more laughter

Jonny starts to sing “Hickory Dickory dock…” (Jonah dislikes most singing of ANY kind from others)

Jonah protests…

Jonny: “Oh. Do you want brother to stop?”

Jonah: “brudder ‘top?”

Jonny: “okay!”

Jonny: “I love you, Jojo. I’m so lucky to have a brother like you!”

It was about here that I noticed there was a lot more dust in the air than normal…

OMG you guys.

It feels like I’m in the twilight zone or something. The rest of the morning proceeded in a similar fashion. Both boys ate breakfast, got dressed and continued to interact the same way the whole way to school.

I’m cautiously optimistic because I’m subconsciously waiting for the “other shoe to drop” as it always does, but for now, I’m pushing that negative voice aside.

Because, today It’s supposed to be 80°F/27°C, but it seems like the sun is shining even brighter this morning.

And I won’t let anything ruin that.
