How do you take care of yourself?

How do you take care of yourself?

Self-care is super important when you are a care-giver.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “You can’t pour out of an empty cup.”

So how do I try to “take care of myself?” I don’t actually eat very healthy. I never have.

But occasionally, I jog to make up for it. I’ve actually put it on my bucket list to run a marathon.

Why do I jog?
Honestly, it is the most efficient means of burning the most calories for me in the LEAST amount of time possible. That’s it.

Now, let’s be clear. I HATE (HATE HATE HATE) jogging. I cannot think of anything less enjoyable to do for recreation.

So why try for a marathon?

…Because I am goal-oriented.
…Because I know that at least attempting to train for a marathon will keep me active and
…Because then (if I ever complete one) I can tell myself that I have “conquered jogging.”

Last year, I eyed a marathon that would have taken place this week. I never had the guts to pull the trigger and sign up.

And it’s a good thing I didn’t. A few weeks ago, I could barely even walk.

It was my IT band (outside of my left leg). It hurt so bad, I had to take pain meds just to get ANY sleep.

So I took a few weeks off… I haven’t started back up since.

Every year, I always have some sort of “injury” that interrupts my workout routine and keeps me sidelined for good.

Once I fall out of the “routine,” it is a VERY long time before I try to start up again and I’ll USUALLY be in worse shape.

And during the week, for me to have time to work out, I have to leave at 4:45am.

It’s not appealing. EVER.

So I tend to find excuses as to why I can’t do it today. (This one from Seasons of Autism made me chuckle). It’s a good a reason as any I suppose. lol…

But in the back of my mind I know I NEED to take care of myself for my kids somehow…

So I guess I’ll start “tomorrow.” (That’s ALSO what I said yesterday).

What do you guys do for “self-care?”
