This came home in Jonah’s back…

This came home in Jonah’s backpack the other day. 😕

He is usually meticulous with his coloring, but this seems much more “expressive.”

It makes sense. He’s been a bit off lately.

Jonny wrote a letter to his old middle-school teacher for teacher’s appreciation week. He is in high school now and does not get to see his old teachers from past schools.

But one of Jonny’s neighborhood friends still goes to his old middle school. Jonny wanted to drop it off with him, so he could give it to her.

I told Jonny he could take it over, but to wait for Mama to come home. Jonah will automatically run outside with Jonny if he leaves the house and I was still needing to get some work done.

Plus, Mama will sometimes hang out at the neighbor’s house as she is good friends with his mom.

But when Mama finally made it home, Jonah would not let her go back outside…

He sat in front of the door, blocking it and yelling at Mama to not go outside, especially not to the neighbor’s house.

Mama invited Jonah to come with Jonny and her, (he often will and typically has a blast).

But he also was having fun playing on his tablet and having to choose between two fun things was too much for him.

Anxiety. No fun.

So Jojo sat in front of the door screaming, not letting anyone open it.

… which made Jonny upset and he started yelling at Jonah to move so he could deliver his letter. When Jonah would not budge, Jonny stomped up to his room, slamming the door and generally not having a good time.

All this within a minute of Mama walking in the front door after working all day at the hospital.

Mama is an RN.

Did I mention this week is Nurses appreciation week? And also Mother’s Day on Sunday?

Yeah. Welcome home, Mama.

So finally, Jonah let Jonny out the front door (so long as Mama didn’t go) and Jonny went to drop off the letter by himself.

I don’t even know if the neighbors were home.

I don’t know what is setting Jonah off, but that is how he has been lately.

His teacher texted me and let me know they are doing standardized testing this week so I wonder if that’s what it is.

Maybe he’s getting sick.

Maybe it’s something else. It’s a guessing game with autism.

I do know that Jonah has been anxious lately at home and even though I don’t know the cause, I’m hoping tomorrow goes a bit better.

That’s really my only goal in parenthood. Some people want happiness and success.

I just want to make today a better day than yesterday.
