So we learned that Jonah’s teacher will be out for another week…(video)
So we learned that Jonah’s teacher will be out for another week (As of last Thursday).
When she finally returns, she will have missed two out of the last three school weeks. Jonah has not done well without his normal teacher. He has been irritable, anxious and dysregulated. The first week she was gone, I received multiple calls home, an email from his sub, and even a relayed message from the BUS DRIVER about Jonah’s behavior and the tough time Jonah was having.
Since returning from winter break, Jonah has had only one full week of “regular school.”
Jonah has either had to quarantine because he was sick or one of us was sick, or his teacher was sick.
So we have had to come up with ways to help regulate Jojo’s anxiety.
Sometimes we would take trips to the beach, or the Children’s museum or the zoo.
Thursday, the day he learned his teacher would be out another week, he decided to go outside and run the hose in the driveway to watch the water streaming.
One of our neighbors saw him and decided to bring her dog out and invited Jonah to walk “Annie-girl” with her. Jonah was thrilled.
He loved it.
Our neighbor loved it.
Annie-girl loved it.
They must have been out there at least half an hour.
And when it started to rain, our neighbor went and got two umbrellas for them. They stayed out there until dinner time.
Jonah came inside with a big smile, and hardly any anxiety.
The next day, I didn’t get any calls home or emails.
And according to the report his teacher received, Jonah had a great day at school.
