So we ran into Blipp…

So we ran into Blippi at the park today.

🤪🤷‍♂️

We weren’t actually LOOKING for Blippi.

We were looking for geese.

There are 2 local parks with fields where flocks of Canadian geese hang out.

Jonah loves to run around and play with the geese.

(Yes, I know they can be aggressive, but we have yet to encounter an aggressive one, and Jonah loves all animals.)

The first field was empty.

I was afraid Jonah was going to lose it if the geese weren’t at field number two.

He had been asking to go see the geese since like 8am and we had family coming over and we wouldn’t get out the door until like 2pm.

So we get to field number two and we are just out of the parking lot walking toward the field.

I noticed off to our right, two guys walking toward us.

One was carrying an expensive-looking camera. The other was ‘dressed-like’ Blippi.

“Oh hey look! It’s Blippi!”

I sort of said it under my breath because I had heard there were some live Blippi shows where the performer was a different actor.

Was this man actually “Blippi” or just dressed like him?

We were going to walk right into each other.

“Hi there!” I greeted him. Just a guy with his kid a the park…

If he wasn’t actually Blippi he HAD to know he was dressed like him right?

He ought to be okay with kids assuming him to be Blippi, dressed as he was…

“Hello!” Blippi responded. And it WAS indeed Blippi. I haven’t watched many full episodes, but I have HEARD HOURS AND HOURS of them coming from the various screens in our house.

I knew this man’s voice.

Blippi.

“Does he know who I am?”

“Eh?”

I had just noticed Jonah had stopped DIRECTLY in his path, squat down, and had covered his ears.

Aye… how to explain it…

It could have been a lot of things.

“Well Blippi, Jonah is autistic and you are freaking him out by being here in person right now instead of safely tucked away at home as a two-dimensional fictitious ‘Daddy-annoying’ voice in his tablet…”

Or…

“Well, Blippi… Jonah knows who you are… um… He tends to cover his ears at ‘intense emotion’ or ‘suspense’ or expectation…”

Or…

“Well, Blippi… yes, Jonah knows who you are. We all do, actually. But Jonah is covering his ears because he has been patiently waiting all day to come see the geese. He really wants to see if the geese are here and to him, you are just distracting Daddy from our actual goal of the geese-playing.”

It was all of the above.

I told Blippi he knew who he was but was just a little nervous.

We went our separate ways and I stopped to snap a picture before we left.

I posted to our local community page and several other parents were able to come see “Blippi” doing his thing.

He left about an hour later.

Jonah could not have cared less.

Because… “GEESE!”

It’s dusk now.

Nearly 5 hours have gone by.

We are still here.

The geese need to be played with until they fly away for the evening.

Blippi?

Ain’t NOBODY got time for that.

The kid spends hours upon hours watching him on YouTube…

…but won’t give Blippi the time of day when we randomly run into him shooting footage in real life.

🙄

“Go back to my tablet, Blippi. That’s where you live.”
