Jojo’s teacher tells…

Jojo’s teacher tells Jojo to say “bye” to me every day when I drop him off at preschool.

This is his response. Every time.

We are working on speech and it is fascinating to me how Jonah’s brain “works.”

When someone says it’s “my turn,” Jonah assigns the word “my” to the person speaking. When someone says “your turn,” he assigns the word “your” to himself.

So if it was indeed “Jonah’s turn” and you asked Jonah “whose turn is it?” He would respond with “your turn” because the last time someone else said “your turn,” it was indeed Jonah’s turn.

And if it was someone else’s turn, he might respond with “my turn” because that is what THEY said when it was their turn.

It makes sense when you think about it literally.

The challenge is teaching a way of speaking that is technically “correct” but makes no literal sense to someone who is a literal thinker.
