Most of Jonah’s meltdowns don’t stem from behavioral struggles.
They stem from communication struggles.
When communication breaks down, frustration and anxiety take over.
Imagine being in a foreign country where you neither understand the words or the culture… and imagine learning the words, but then learning that the same words mean different things in different situations… and then not being able to understand the different situations.
…Where you don’t understand the culture but are expected to behave as if you do.
…Where you want to convey one thing, but they hear something entirely different. And no matter how hard you try, they don’t understand you.
Yeah… it would be pretty frustrating… and cause a lot of anxiety…
Being able to effectively communicate is the FIRST and MAIN priority of our parenting journey.
