It’s just a hole-in-the-wall…

So, funny story, I was changing Jonny, not expecting to find any suprises since at night, his diaper will end up very wet, but not dirty.

But this particular morning, we had surprises and daddy was not prepared (bad daddy). The wipes were downstairs and I had the little guy stark naked with his jammies off and a dirty diaper. So, in a frantic rush, I fastened up his dirty diaper, shut him in his nursery, and made a mad dash for the play room.

Well, if you didn’t know, I began working out this week and my legs could barely hold my weight. I may have been relying on the handrails a little more than usual. So, as I was decending the second set of stairs into our playroom, I noticed that the railing ‘moved’ a little as I was rushing down it.

I thought, “That can’t be good” as I ran back upstairs with the box of wipes. After, Jonny had been changed properly, I went back to inspect the damage.

The lower half of my railing had pushed right through the drywall and apparently was not anchored into a stud at all. So, I took off the railing altogether and now have a 2″x3″ gaping hole in my wall.

Right now, I’m thinking, I can fix this, easy. Quick trip down to Lowe’s, a few tools and a scrap of drywall ought to do it. Bear in mind that all railings are supposed to be anchored to studs, I may have to take out a relatively larger section of the wall to the stud on either side so I can anchor a cross-board to re-anchor my railing in. Or I may simply patch the hole, and put the railing screws in exactly as before and hope it holds this time?

Before I destroy my playroom wall and the garage wall behind it, anyone have any advice (like don’t do it…get a contractor, just take the railing down and hang a picture in front of the hole, etc)?

“I have no idea how to teach him to stand in line.” This is one of our biggest difficulties currently. I have no advice…
