I haven’t posted a lot recently and there are several reasons.

The first is that I’ve simply not been inspired.

When I’m inspired, the writing comes easily and naturally.

When I’m not inspired, my writing turns to trash (in my opinion). Everything about it bugs me. The grammar or the content in general. I’ll rewrite it and rewrite it… It takes forever.

I’ve deleted SEVERAL posts in the past before they went live, even after investing several hours into them.

I used to think I was a good “multitasker.”
That is a lie. I’m TERRIBLE at multitasking.

Whatever I’m working on, I will give 100% of my attention. And when I’m not actively working on that task, I am mentally processing the next thing I’m going to do with it.

My Facebook page has NOT been a task I’ve given more than a smidgen of attention in a LONG time.

The second reason I haven’t been posting much is that I’ve just not been ON Facebook that much.

Over the years, Facebook has become a less desirable place to spend any kind of time. My feed is flooded with junk ads, suggested pages to follow that I don’t care about, suggested groups that I have no connection with, and Reels that I have no desire to watch.

Many users have migrated away. Many page owners have as well. I rarely see any posts from people I have actively followed.

…and because I’ve been inactive myself, when I DO post, Facebook deprioritizes the post in favor of more active page owners or paying content creators, so my reach is hammered, and my posts are displayed to like .001% of my followers.

Honestly, I’ll get more interaction from a handful of active friends on posts on my personal account than I do from my public Facebook page with 18K followers.

And for someone who is a “words of affirmation” type of guy, it doesn’t inspire a lot of “posting mojo.”

But probably the BIGGEST reason I haven’t posted much is because of Jonah himself.

Self-advocacy has always been such a huge goal in Jonah’s development and we have come so far on that front.

Jonah will now diligently advocate for himself and for others.

When Jonah was younger, I would take dozens of pictures or videos daily.

Now, most times when Jonah sees me pointing a camera toward him, he will actually TELL me “no camera!” and I’ll put the camera away.

It’s hard because the kid is so darn photogenic, and I am a relentless shutter-bug!

Sometimes I’ll be hanging out discussing things we are dealing with to other parents, and if Jonah even hears the words “OT, speech, or appointment,” he will tell me “DON’T talk about it!” And I’ll stop talking about it.

(His speaking abilities have come so far, you guys!)

So I’m trying to respect that here. There are things Jonah simply wouldn’t want me talking about, and he now has the ability to communicate that to me.

That in itself is a huge victory!

If you would have told me 7 years ago, that Jonah would be able to tell me in his own words what he wanted to share (or not share) about his journey and progress, I would have been absolutely beside myself with glee. #smALLVICTORIES

The boys are getting older. “This Ausome story” is beginning to diverge from “our” story into “their story.”

And I have my own story.

I have it on my bucket list to one day write a book and maybe one day I will. Creativity has always been my outlet. I can’t see myself just “not creating” any kind of content.

This page has been my go-to for venting, connecting, and networking with other parents going through a similar situation. I can’t see myself taking it down (for now).

(Unless the boys ask me to of course)

I’m not sure the direction I will go from here… but we will see.
