We went camping last weekend for Mama’s family reunion.
Last year, when we went camping, Jonah would spend hours decompressing in a red hammock one of our family members brought.
He enjoyed spending time in the hammok, but he would get eaten alive by mosquitos.
Mosquitos… little mini devil-vampires… 🤬
One of Jonah’s more recent anxieties are “bugs.”
House flies, bees, mosquitos… you name it.
Bugs are instant RED ALERT MUST DEAL WITH NOW problems.
Jonah would rather lock me out of the house rather than chance opening the front door and risk a bug possibly flying in.
Seriously. I can’t even open the front door for myself anymore.
But camping with Jojo… for FOUR DAYS in the bugs natural habitat…

I was worried Jonah would lose it by day ONE.
But…
That’s when one of our family members put up his new CAMPING hammock. (Complete with mosquito netting)
Jonah was instantly drawn to it…
And with it, instant anxiety relief… for both Jojo and Daddy.
Do you know how anxiety-inducing it is as a parent knowing we are choosing to eat, sleep, play, and stay in an environment with literally BILLIONS of flying creatures that could potentially cause a meltdown for my child at any given moment?
Jonah would run around at dusk slathered in mosquito repellent yelling “Stop following me bugs! Bugs! Don’t follow me!!” Not realizing that virtually every square foot of this campground is filled with some sort of flying insect.
It’s not just the same 4 or 5 “bugs” following you around the camp ground, buddy. 😬
But alas.
This hammock, saved us yall…
It saved us.
Not this time, bugs.
Not this time, you billions of anxiety inducing, potentially catastrophic, pointless, worthless, blood-sucking, spawn of Satan mangled meltdown-makers otherwise known as mosquitos. Be gone!
And with the mosquitos no-longer a problem, Jojo was able to relax, so Daddy was able to relax.
And we had a fun camping trip.
