April is autism awar…

April is autism awareness month. So here’s a fun fact of what we go through as parents.

Waiting lists. Every service related to autism has a waiting list.

What’s the longest you’ve had to wait?

In 2016, when we suspected Jonah might be autistic, we made appointments to have him evaluated at every accredited place locally that could make formal diagnoses.

The waiting lists were long. Very long. We got in about 9 months after we signed up because of a cancellation.

So how long would we have waited if we hadn’t gotten Jonah evaluated because of that cancellation?

I’ve always wondered.

One of those places just called me back today saying they could finally try to schedule him in.

The waiting list to just be EVALUATED for autism here is

SIX.
YEARS.
LONG.

I can’t even imagine what life would be like if we had to wait this long before we could even start services with Jonah.

If you need early intervention now, you almost have to just sign your kids up to be evaluated when they are born, even if you don’t suspect autism. 😳

I mean, you can always just cancel the appt right?
