The bus was late tod…

The bus was late today.

Very late.

I took this picture 15 minutes after school had already started. Jojo had been waiting patiently for the bus at this point for over an hour.

He was perfectly content.

I could have driven him to school myself. He would have been on time.

But he would not have started the day off on the right foot. He would have protested which would have led to dysregulation and possibly even a meltdown.

Jonah has been having a phenomenal school year. And I attribute it mostly to the social interaction he is getting while at school. And riding the bus is the beginning of that social setting.

It is a “special” privilege to Jojo. Bubba doesn’t get to ride the bus. Daddy doesn’t drive it. It’s all just for Jojo (and his friends).

Do you know how much it warms my heart to hear the other kids all greeting Jonah as the bus doors open? And to see them all waving goodbye with him through the windows as they leave?

😭

Jonah absolutely LOVES riding that bus with his friends. It sets the tone for his day.

I would rather him be late, happy and with friends, than on time, anxious, and alone.

No. If the bus is late, we will wait.

We will wait as long as we need.

(Today, the bus driver had to cover 2 different routes because they are so short-staffed.)

“No worries, bus driver. It’s all good. You made it, and that’s all that matters.”
