“Wake up.”…

“Wake up.”

It was dark out. I think. I was in bed. I could feel Jonah “steam-rolling” on top of me.

He would roll on me… kick me in the legs, the midsection… sometimes even in the face.

The kid cannot stay still in our bed. What is it, like 3am?

Mfffffggggg!!!!!!

Lemmesleep, Jojo!!

Now he was scripting something… couldn’t quite make it out.

roll roll

kick kick

script script.

Rinse repeat.

He starts his bedtime in his own bed. But sometime in the night, he will get up and creep into our bed.

99 out of 100 nights.

I’ve tried putting him back in his bed. I’ve tried sleeping on the couch. I’ve tried sleeping on the floor.

The kid finds me, every night. Like some sleepy nocturnal game of hide and seek.

So it’s not “our bed” he wants.

Just Daddy. 😒

I’ve given up. I just “take it” now. I lay in bed and try to “power-sleep” through it.

Which is what I was trying to do at the time.

roll roll

kick kick

script script.

Rinse repeat…

“Wake up.”

Wait… what did he just say?

Reflexes kicked in from the countless hours we have worked on speech with him.

Spontaneous intraverbal… a verbal request. Requires immediate response and an affirmation and acknowledgement.

My eyes shot open.

“Good morning, Jojo! Thank you for asking me to wake up!”

Jojo smiled with glee, and then happily bounded off the bed and went downstairs.

The little jerk just wanted to get me up out of bed.

But he verbally requested it!

Hey. You gotta celebrate the victories where you can find them.

Ugh. But it feels like I haven’t slept at ALL.

What is it… like 3am?

(Looks at the clock.)

Nope!

It’s after 8am! 😫😫😫
