Why does your attitu… (video)

Why does your attitude toward your child matter and why do your words matter?

Jonah was diagnosed with Autism (nonverbal) at age 3.

At the end of last school year, Jonah’s preschool class made books for each child, each one with a paper made by each student/teacher describing what makes them special and why they like them.

I made a video of myself reading Jonah’s book, and then filed the book under his many preschool creations, which would probably be tossed in the trash after a couple months.

Jonah found the video on my phone and watched it.
He watched it again.

He watched it Over. and over. and OVER. AND OVER again.

He watched it so much, he memorized it. 3 minutes of video. Three minutes of positive encouragement.

One day in January, we found his book again, buried under the stack of papers.

You should have seen the look on his face. He took it with him everywhere. He went to bed with it.

And then, he opened it up and started READING IT to me.

My little boy, who is working so hard on 3-word sentences recited the ENTIRE thing, cover to cover.

That’s how powerful our words are.
