This is so true for …

This is so true for so many of us. Jonah genuinely WANTS to be included and involved with other kids. Every time Jonny goes outside to play, Jonah wants to be out there with him. Sometimes he will want to play with the other kids, but most times, he just wants to do his own thing. Outside. Like his brother is doing. We’ve been incredibly fortunate in our friendships and relationships. People that know us know our situation and we have never felt specifically excluded. But I know for many of us, that is simply not the case. From A Piece of Oakley

My kid was left out of an event today. People suck. Thankfully, Oakley doesn’t have a Facebook and for right now, I can shield him from this hurt. That still doesn’t make it okay. I can’t emphasize this enough to family and friends of families who have an autistic child, or a child with any disability (what I like to call a different ability) for that matter, never exclude that family. Always keep inviting them, even if they’re a family who tends to never make it to an event. Keep trying. One day they just might surprise you and it will be a day of celebratory in their book. You have no idea what it takes to prepare to attend gatherings and then make it go successfully. Just because we may not make it doesn’t mean we don’t want to be invited. We do. More than you know. 💙 #autism
