I was never a “pet” person growing up. My mom was allergic to just about every pet animal out there (so she said).
But I can see the value of them with our kids — The unconditional companionship they provide.
Not just the responsibility of taking care of them (that’s still all me) but learning life lessons as well. Everything gets old eventually. And one day, all living things will die.
But we can be thankful for the time we had when they were here.
We said goodbye to our Kitty Chloe last week.
Today we said hello to “Annie” our new kitten.
Jonny named her after the character in the musical of the same name.
I got on board with the name after I asked her if she was “okay” when Russell (our 2-year-old kitty) was playing a little rough with her.
“Annie are you okay?”
(And then I couldn’t stop singing that song. I mean, Russell sort of IS a “Smooth Criminal”)
The kids LOVE the new kitten (of course), Jonah especially. He is ALWAYS gentle with animals no matter what his mood is.
He will talk to the kitties even if he won’t talk to us. He says hi to both of them while he pets them. “Hi Annie!! Hi kitty!! Oh, hi!”
His first sentence was telling “Russell! Out!”
I called Russell his “therapy cat” and maybe that is true. But Russell is getting more and more rambunctious and without Chloe around he was taking it out on us.
He needed another “friend” to play with.
