It started snowing yesterday.
Jonah was so excited. He ran around looking out every window in the house saying “IT’S SNOW!” over and over….
I didn’t think it would last. The weather (on my iPhone) said it would be done by 6pm.
Siri is a liar it seems.
It snowed most the night.
The school called me at 5:30 am to inform me that school would start 2 hours late.
Great.
Just what I need at 5:30 am. Nothing like a phone call to wake me up telling me that I don’t need to wake up…
In any case, I didn’t go back to sleep.
We were outside in the freezing cold before 8am.
Before breakfast.
Nearly before clothes.
Within an hour, we got a call that school was cancelled for the day. This is now the 6th day in a row that Jonah has been home with me. The school was out on mid-winter break last week.
In the Pacific Northwest, we rarely get snow (at least rarely on this side of the state). When we do, it is sort of an anomaly.
So Jonah was the appropriate amount of “excited.” (The same as I was as a kid).
I suppose that means I am the “appropriate amount” of “grumpy” about it, now being a parent.
Nobody can drive in this stuff around here. Nobody is prepared.
Being in the snow isn’t “magical” anymore for me. It’s just cold.
It is freezing outside and Jonah needs constant supervision.
Before, when I would tell Jonah that it was time to come in, it would result in a meltdown.
Today, we played out in the snow until Jonah was too cold to stay outside any longer. He willingly came in.
We played inside for the rest of the day.
Snow days can be “hit” or “miss.”
Today was a “hit” for the kids.
I just wish I wasn’t so tired so I could enjoy it more.
