Recently I saw this …

Recently I saw this question posted in a forum and it got me thinking.

“Why did we choose to have kids? What’s the point?”

Was it because it was expected of us? Just to pass on our genetics? What is the appeal?

What about you? What are your thoughts?

The other question it got me thinking about was:

“Looking back and knowing what ‘parenting’ would become for us, if I had to make that decision again, would I choose the same?”

That could be a tough one for a lot of people…

MY RESPONSE
———————

I chose to have kids because I realized my life is not just about “me.”

I chose to have kids because I feel I have a responsibility to do my part to help raise up a generation that will make a positive impact on the future.

I chose to have kids because I understand that with proper guidance, children can affect change in an entire generation.

The way I raise them now, impacts their lives, which will impact the lives of those around them, including how they treat their friends and family and the way they raise THEIR kids.

To me, it’s not about “having kids.”

It’s about making and leaving the world a better place.

Knowing the hardships we have faced and ARE facing as parents, would I choose to do the same if I was given the choice again?

Absolutely. 100% in a heartbeat.

The fact of the matter is that NOBODY knows the future. Life is going to knock you down at some point. Trying to avoid hardships is a fruitless endeavor.

The way I see it, if it wasn’t “autism” or another “parenting challenge,” it would be something else that would either be just as challenging or even MORE-SO. That’s life. And you have to face those challenges head-on.
