What I wish I would have known” when Jojo was diagnosed…

Sometimes I start to think about “what I wish I would have known” when Jojo was diagnosed, or maybe what I would tell other parents who are just starting their journey.

What do you wish you would have known?

I think I would tell myself to not let the opinion of some stranger from a psych clinic who spends 2 hours with my child dictate how I should see or raise him.

He is the same kid he was before he was diagnosed and I know him better than anyone else. No label is going to change that.

I’m not raising “autism.” Autism is just a part of Jojo’s life, (which is different for every single person). You can’t gauge what life will be like by watching youtube videos of other kids. He’s not “other kids.”

You don’t know what life will be like for him in the future.

“Autism” isn’t the end of the journey.

Autism or not, our journey is STILL what we make of it.

Don’t worry about that stuff in the distance. Take the challenges as they come. Worry about what you can do NOW.
