The sort of thing gives me hope for our future.

I shared this in my personal profile, but thought I would share with you as well.

Yesterday, when we were at Jonny’s orientation, an older student (probably 4th or 5th grade) approached Jonny unprompted and said this.

“I need to apologize to you. I’m sorry for teasing you about your chubby cheeks in 2nd grade.”

I could tell Jonny had no idea who this girl was or what she was talking about. My wife had to prompt Jonny to respond.

“That’s okay.”

It takes guts to apologize to someone. It takes even more guts if you know the person you’ve offended probably doesn’t remember the offense. There is no reason to apologize…

Except because it is the right thing to do.

That feeling that you need to make things right with someone, even if they don’t know it… Having a conscience, and following your conscience…

…this from a 4th or 5th grader,

….That is the sort of thing gives me hope for our future.
