Autism doesn’t have a specific “look.”

Autism doesn’t have a specific “look.”

Many people have told me they would have “never known” and they are genuinely surprised when they find out Jojo is autistic.

Even more so when they find out he was diagnosed with level 3 (severe) autism.

When we went on a plane to Hawaii, Jonah wore a shirt that said “AUTISM” so people would be aware that my kid isn’t just being “unruly.”

Jonah doesn’t do a lot of hand flapping or spinning, but that doesn’t mean his autism is “less severe” than someone who does.

And like all those who are also “level-3’s,” he requires VERY substantial support.

So when you see me holding him through a meltdown, or chasing him down the hall or “letting him misbehave,” what you are seeing is me supporting him.

…Very substantially.

Please understand we are doing our best. This is just life. This is “our” autism.

Thanks to Autism peeps get in line, but don’t expect to wait. for the graphic.
