The first day we came to the beach, he ran straight at the ocean and a wave put him on his back within 30 seconds.
He did not like it.
We have done the wave pool at the Great Wolf Lodge and he was fine with it… he loved it even.
The unpredictability of the waves (size and frequency) and the undertow of the ocean give Jonah pause.
After the first incident, he wouldn’t go in the ocean. He wouldn’t even stand in the sand! We had to hold him every time we went to the beach.
I shot this video yesterday.
We got Jonah a pair of water shoes which help with the sand aversion. I think he didn’t like the “wet sand” sensation on his feet.
He was able to not only be put down, but played in the ocean again, at least from the shore.
I think his fear of the ocean has turned into a healthy respect, which is a good thing in my opinion.
We can see him being knocked down by another wave, but he gets right back up again…
