If there was something you could tell your former self when you started down the journey you are currently on, what would it be?

16 years ago today, I asked this girl out. 14 years ago today, I asked her to marry me.

Looking back from now to that time, I have had to learn quite a bit. Some of it has definitely been an eye-opening experience.

I wanted to establish myself. I wanted to have a job/house/car/stability before we got married.

That is all something that we did together. It’s a simple paradigm shift. You go from identifying yourself as “me” to identifying yourself as “us.”

It’s the same with parenting. And as you take on more and more responsibilities, your identity of “us” goes to include your kids.

The dynamic will inevitably change again. Kids grow up. Family dynamics change. There will be good times and tough times.

It is important to live in the present, because LIFE will change just like THAT.

I wouldn’t change anything. I don’t think I would tell myself anything. I don’t think I would have listened anyway.

The lessons I’ve learned in life have all come from experiences in life, which has helped to shape me into the person I am.

The person my wife needs me to be. The person my kids need to be.

The person that I need to be.
