Jonny’s Surgery

It’s 6:00 Tuesday. Jonny’s surgery got pushed back from 1:00 to 5:00. He has been in surgery almost an hour.

Basically the possibilities are

A) The doctor can pop Jonny’s hips back in place without any incisions

B) A ‘closed reduction’ surgery. The doctor makes 2 small incisions, also cutting 1 of the 3 adduct or tendons on both legs (groin area) in order to position his legs in the proper position.

C) An ‘open reduction’ surgery. In the event he the socket is not sufficiently cleared out (if there is something obstructing the socket), the doctor has to make large incisions, clearing out the socket before proceeding. This is the most invasive with the most recovery time.

Over the weekend Jonny got to see both sets of grandparents last weekend. We took a day trip and had a very nice time with Mama’s relatives. Jonny did very well staying awake almost all day. He was certainly a big hit at the party.

Then Sunday was my mom’s birthday and we had a very nice time at my parents house. Jonny also had a blast there.

So we had a nice weekend before his surgery. The last few days, he has been very good, almost settling into a routine. Today was no different. He woke up, ate around 8:00 and then took his mid morning nap.

We were informed that he could drink mama’s milk up until 10:00.

Well, I tried to get him up to feed at 10:00, but he just would not wake up and when he tried, he was certainly not in the mood to eat.

So he missed his last chance to eat and then we had to try to feed him water for the first time at 11:30. Surprisingly he took it with little incident. I can’t imagine it was like milk, but it at least filled his belly until 1:30 when we fed him some Pedialyte (essentially sugar water) and he ate almost an entire bottle of that, just thrilled to have all that sugar. He woke up almost instantly and was on the biggest sugar kick ever for about a couple hours.

Then he crashed a little bit and started on the binky. …ahhh wonderful precious binky.

That lasted us clear until he was wheeled back to surgery at 5:00. It’s about 6:00 now and they are just finishing up the surgery so that is good news.

I am blogging this to pass the time. I’ll keep you up to date with the latest when we hear it.
